Stew Langer
Stew Langer started his career in glass in the early 70s, and his own business in the mid 80's.
A minor claim to fame is that his work could be seen in almost any major city in the country, as he wrote the specifications for the stained glass that has been a feature in over 1000 Applebee's restaurants. . After operating as Stained Glass & Design Company for 12 years, they started the UroGlass glass concept in 1999, inspired by meetings with glass artists on a trip to Australia. UroGlass architectural glass and custom products are now distributed across the US and to dealers in Canada and Bermuda.
Today, with Stew Langer at the helm, SG&D Studio and UroGlass Design serve the needs of residential, commercial, liturgical, health care and hospitality clients. Almost any type of decorative specialty glass is available from these two companies, who continue to be a valuable resource in the midwest, and across the United States.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist with a 45-year history in decorative glass and mixed visual arts, I've had the opportunity to touch many lives with a variety of projects executed in many mediums, always centered around decorative glass. The thrill of completing larger projects, executed collaboratively with my staff and other talented artists, becomes increasingly important as I reach the later stages of my career. Recognizing the true value of art as it functions to engage and stimulate the viewer, ignite conversation, enhance public spaces, and future projects.
I would create, fabricate, and install a large-scale cast glass artwork or series of artworks that address the ecology and cultural history of the site while complementing the surrounding natural environment and inspiring a deeper engagement with the open space through an immersive, human-centered installation design.

Being multi-disciplinary has reinforced the idea that all art follows the same principles, just using different expressions. Looking back, my most valuable learning came from studying the elements of design. Exploring line, shape, texture, negative space, rhythm, color, and contrast are found throughout my art, graphics, and architecture. Recently, customizing materials has opened up a new means of expressive exploration and a new road to bring delight into the built environment.
